How to get a OCI photo that passes
- 01
Take the photo
Stand about 2 ft (60 cm) in front of a plain, light wall. Ask someone to take the photo from about 4 ft (1.2 m) away with the camera at face height. Use daylight from a window in front of you, not overhead light. Take off your glasses, keep both eyes open and your mouth closed.
- 02
Check the crop
The tool finds your face, sizes your head and makes the background plain automatically. If a check turns amber or red, drag or zoom until it turns green.

Download or print
Download the digital photo for online forms, or the 4 × 6 in sheet to print at a photo kiosk. Print at actual size and cut along the grey lines.

Questions people ask
What size is an OCI photo?
A square photo, 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), with your head 25–35 mm from the top of your hair to the bottom of your chin. The download from this page is a 600 × 600 px JPEG.
What file size do I need for the OCI upload?
Indian missions publish limits between 200 KB and 500 KB. The download from this page stays under 200 KB, so it fits all of them.
What background is allowed?
A plain, light-coloured background with even light and no shadows on your face or behind you.
Can I wear glasses?
Tinted and dark glasses are not allowed, and clear lenses must not show glare. Taking them off is the safest choice.
Do I also need a signature?
Yes. The OCI form asks for a signature image too. Sign on plain white paper in black ink and scan it.
