How we check photo rules

A wrong size can get an application rejected, so every rule on this site follows the same process.

Official sources only

Sizes, head heights, backgrounds and file limits come from the government agency that issues the document, such as the U.S. Department of State or the UK Passport Office. We don't copy rules from other photo websites.

Every page shows its source and date

Each tool page links to the official page we used and shows the date we last checked it. Our build refuses to publish a rule that is missing its source or date.

Regular re-checks

We re-check the most used countries every month, and any rule as soon as someone reports a change.

Corrections

If something looks wrong, tell us with a link to the official page. We fix confirmed errors and update the date on the page.
